Educator. WCDSB Parent. Proven Leader.
Preparing every student to thrive in a changing world.
“Our children are growing up in a world changing faster than at any point in our lifetimes. I believe our Catholic schools can give them something incredibly powerful: a strong academic foundation, faith and values that ground them, and the skills and confidence to build meaningful lives. I am running because I believe my experience in education, leadership and our community can help WCDSB deliver that promise for every student.”
- Dr. Suzanne Kearns
I am running for WCDSB Trustee because I believe:
Catholic education should be
nurturing, inclusive, and future-focused
It is incredibly important that our Catholic education system follows the Catholic Social Teaching of Human Dignity - every student deserves care, respect, and inclusion. Part of creating human dignity is preparing every student to build a path for themselves. Each WCDSB graduate should graduate with a foundation to grow from and hope for a better tomorrow.
Schools should prepare students for
both careers and citizenship
This means that every student deserves real-world learning connections and opportunities. To do this, we must create strong partnerships with both families and community stakeholders. Only then can we begin to build students who are truly ready to participate fully in community and civic life.
Responsible stewardship of public resources
is paramount
Responsible Stewardship of resources is also a key Catholic Social Teaching. Decisions on how to spend funding should prioritize students and classrooms, ensuring teachers are supported and unnecessary administrative complexity is reduced. Every dollar spent should directly improve student learning, well-being, and outcomes.
I am committed to bringing my unique experience to the Board table, combining more than 20 years in education with proven leadership, global perspective, and firsthand connection as a WCDSB parent.
I am a lifelong educator committed to students, families, and
Catholic education.
With over 20 years of experience as an educator, researcher, and University of Waterloo aviation professor, my passion lies in empowering students at every stage of their learning journey, from their earliest years of learning through graduations and beyond. I am deeply committed to bringing my background in mentorship, collaborative leadership, and educational vision to the WCDSB to help nurture, guide, and strengthen our vibrant school community.
I deeply believe every student deserves high-quality education, meaningful opportunities, and strong support to excel academically, socially, and spiritually.
I have also organized, led and supported major projects in the Waterloo region, including research and development projects valued in excess of $12 million.
I understand the value of ensuring public funds are used to effectively accomplish long term goals, meeting the needs of community and even global stakeholders.
I am also a proud parent of three children who have attended and thrived in the Waterloo Catholic District School Board. I know that my personal experiences have given me a deep understanding of our system’s strengths and the importance of continuous improvement.
My work has always focused on one goal:
Helping students reach their potential and prepare for a successful future in an ever-changing world.
